Civil War Diary, 1864.

The diary (January-June, 1864) details the march of the 70th Indiana Volunteer Regiment from Nashville, Tenn. to Dalton, Ga., and describes the Battle of Resaca. Grubbs describes camp life and troop movements leading to the Battle of Resaca. There is also a note which gives a brief history of the diary attached at the front.

Grubbs was born in Martinsville, Ind. He served with the 70th Indiana Volunteers during the Civil War and returned to Martinsville after the war. He became a lawyer in 1868. In 1878 he was elected to the Indiana State Legislature, followed by two terms in the State Senate. He took the post of circuit court judge in 1888 and kept the position until he retired to private legal practice. He died in Martinsville in 1924. From the description of Civil War Diary, 1864. Col. Sanders D. Bruce served with the 20th Kentucky Infantry Regiment during the Civil War as commanding officer at Bowling Green, Ky. and as provost-marshal-general in Lexington, Ky. James H.
